• Study residence permit (Educational Residence Permit) - is issued to persons coming to Georgia to study at authorized educational institutions; It is one of the most prevalent kind of Residence Permit as many students come from other countries to Georgia for graduation.
• Labour residence permit (Work Residence Permit) - is issued to persons coming to Georgia for entrepreneurial or labour activities as well as to a person holder of free profession; This kind of Residence Permit is the second in the listing of most widespread kinds of Residence permits as there are many foreign citizens who work in Georgian companies or who have free profession, Ex: photographers, designers, artists, and etc.
• Residence permit for family reunion is issued to family members of a foreigner who already holds a residence permit.

Family members include: a spouse, child, and a parent, also an underage or incapacitated person being fully dependent and/or being under their care (guardianship);

• Residence permit of a former citizen of Georgia - is issued to a foreign citizen whose Georgian citizenship has been terminated;
• Residence permit of a stateless person - is issued to a person, whose status of stateless person has been established in Georgia;
• Special residence permit - is issued:

- to a foreign citizen when there is reasonable doubt that he/she might be a victim of human trafficking.

- to a foreign citizen who has got the written initiative from a member of the government of Georgia, asking to issue a temporary residence permit to the person.

- to a foreign citizen who could not be deported and accordingly Temporary Identification Card has been issued and 5 years passed from issuance of Temporary Identification Card;

- to the citizen of foreign country who has a status of Compatriot;

•  Temporary residence permit - is issued to a foreign citizen, who has been recognized as a victim of domestic violence by Georgian Law;
• Permanent residence permit - is issued:

- to a spouse, parent and child of Georgian citizen;

- to a foreign citizen, residing in Georgia for the past six years based upon a temporary residence permit. However, there is one exception: the term doesn’t include the period of residing in Georgia for educational purposes or medical treatment or working at the diplomatic or relative representations.

• Investment residence permit - is issued to a foreign citizen who invested at least 300 000 Gel in Georgia, and also for his family members.
• Short-term residence permit - is issued to the person – and his/her family members – who, according Georgian legislation have the right to immovable property (except agricultural land), with the market price above USD 35 000 equivalent in Gel.
